Top Freelancers don’t tell beginners this
When I first started freelancing, I thought I had it all figured out. After years of working regular jobs, I was ready to break free, work on my own terms, and do what I enjoy. I imagined setting my own hours, working from home, and choosing projects I was excited about.
But freelancing isn’t as easy as I thought. A lot of things came as a surprise. Looking back, I wish someone had told me these things before I started.
Here are the key lessons I learned along the way.
Freelancing comes with boom and burst
One thing I didn’t expect was how much income can fluctuate from month to month. Some months, I was super busy and made more than 9X my previous salary at a regular job. Other months, work slowed down, and I was keeping myself busy with creating YouTube videos while waiting for the next project.
At first, I wasn’t prepared for the slow times. During busy months, I assumed it would always be that way. Big mistake. When work dried up, I felt the pressure. Now, I make sure to save enough to cover at least three to six months of expenses. This way, I’m not stressed when work slows down.
