Showing Love to Remote Clients & Freelancers
As an Upwork freelancer, without my clients, my business is dead, so this holiday season is a perfect time to show appreciation for their support, friendship, and patronage throughout this year, 2024. As an Upwork client, you may also show love to that outstanding freelancer working for you all year round.
No one has to break the bank since January always feels like a long month if finances are not adequately planned in December, so I factor that in some of these thoughtful love-showing we freelancers, clients, remote workers, and other onlinepreneurs can do to express our gratitude. This doesn’t necessarily have to be seen as a strategy but just something from your heart that genuinely strengthens the professional relationships you value.
1. Festive E-cards & Personalised Notes
Sending a personalised thank-you email or Upwork messages to each of your clients would be a nice idea. It’s even better if you can include some form of Merry Christmas, Season’s greetings, or Happy New Year e-cards, whether static or moving GIFs.
Quick pro tip: for those who can design eCards and festive GIFs, this is a good project catalogue to create now.
Back to my festive season appreciation of your virtual clients. You can highlight key moments that stood out for you during the year.
For example,
“Thank you for entrusting me with all your projects this year.” Working on television game show footage. It was an inspirational challenge for me. “I wish you a wonderful holiday season!”
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to work on your new book. I consider it a wonderful resource. “Happy holidays and a prosperous New Year!”
You can take this a notch higher by using platforms like Canva or Paperless Post to customise e-cards and send e-cards with beautiful designs.
2. Virtual Gifts
If you’re bucked up, why not give your clients virtual gifts such as e-gift cards, online subscriptions, or digital products? You know your client better than I do, so have this tailored to your client’s interests. These virtual gifts break the geographical distance barrier.
I gave a physical gift a thought, too, but clients may feel sceptical about sharing their address with you. However, virtual gifts can be sent via email or Upwork’s messaging system. Here are some virtual gifts you can consider: Amazon gift cards and digital products, digital downloads and unique virtual gifts on Etsy, or subscriptions to platforms like Audible, Netflix, or Spotify. I wish Upwork incorporated Connect gifting, where I can gift fellow freelancers some Connects and be gifted some Connects by my Upwork clients.
3. Discounts, Special Offers and Complementary Services
This is a good time to give your good clients a holiday discount or give them some form of special deal on your services.
For example, I will provide a virtual voucher from $20-$200 to clients who patronised me this year, depending on the size of their projects. I will clarify to them that these vouchers are deductible for my services in 2025. You can copy and communicate my idea to your client via email, WhatsApp, or Upwork messages.
