I recently got a suspension warning for allegedly sharing or requesting contact info from a client before an offer was accepted. That’s not correct; the client, being novice to the Upwork TOS innocently shared his contact with me out of the blues, probably thinking it will help ease communication. I was shocked and quickly called his attention to the breach of Upwork TOS immediately.
Reasons for Upwork Suspensions
Upwork suspends accounts for breaking their rules.
Here are some common reasons:
- Having more than one account.
- Getting paid outside of Upwork — circumvention
- Sending generic job proposals.
- Getting continuous bad feedback from clients.
- Being unprofessional with clients.
- Not using your account for a long time.
- Changing upwork location illegally or irregular IP.

If your account gets suspended, don’t worry:
- Check your email, including spam. That will help you know the exact reason why your account got suspended.
- Appeal quickly and explain your side. The chances are low but you might be lucky if your appeal is considered valid by Upwork
- For clients such as an Upwork enterprise clients, contact Upwork directly.
- For other clients, sort your payments and card issues if any and contact customer support
Upwork is an helpful platform no one will love to be kicked out of. So, stay vigilant by following Upwork’s terms of service, being professional, and talking openly with clients.
