How to Receive Your YouTube Earnings in your Naira Bank Account
This is for my fellow Nigerian YouTubers! I guess you have just hit a significant milestone of monetisation on your channel or are about to. Now, you’re probably wondering if you can get your hard-earned YouTube dollars into your Naira account.
Yes, you can, but while receiving your YouTube earnings directly in your Naira account is possible, it’s essential to understand the process is complex. Well, that’s why I am here for you.
When Google or YouTube sends a payment to your Naira account, it’s typically in USD. Things can get confusing if you do not readily transact in dollars. Even I, as a freelance coach who has done USD transactions for years, had a bit of a challenge as services like Cleva and Geegpay dollar accounts didn’t give SWIFT BIC codes, which YouTube requires, so they couldn’t come to my rescue. So, I had to seek alternatives and found this to work.
Here’s my step-by-step guide to you through the process:
- Awaiting the Payment: Note that Google usually disburses Adsense payments for creators between the 21st and 25th of each month. Once the payment is initiated, it may take a few days to reflect in your account.
- The Inflow: As your account is in Naira, the USD payment will be treated as an “inflow.” This means it’s not immediately accessible. You may not get an alert or see it in your bank app at all. Hence, you need to check your AdSense account to see if it has been sent or removed from your account.
- Bank Visit: Once the payment is confirmed, as I just described, visit your bank. Consult with a customer service representative or your account officer. Inform them about the expected payment from Google or YouTube.
- The Inflow Letter: Your bank will check and acknowledge the USD inflow. They will ask you to write a simple letter requesting the conversion of this inflow into Naira. They will give you specific guidelines to follow for the letter of content.
- Currency Conversion: After submitting the letter, your bank will convert the USD to Naira. Note that this will be done at their prevailing exchange rate, which may differ from the black market rate. The good thing is that the unification of the naira-dollar exchange rate will be insignificant.
Now that I have shown you it’s possible to receive your YouTube earnings in your Naira account, I should have told you that having a Nigerian domiciliary dollar account can make things much more manageable. For example, you are not obligated to convert the currency to Naira when withdrawing; you can use your dollar to make international payments, among other flexibility in managing your foreign earnings.
