4 Freelancer Hacks from the Honey Badger
You want the Upwork freelance money — the honey. But are you a honey badger? You have the skills, but do you have the resilience of the honey badger to earn the top Upwork badges?
You have been sending out Upwork proposals, but you are getting no response, let alone a job. So, you back down and say, “Upwork is not for me.” Oh, “you were not informed too,” in Patience Jonathan’s voice… that this freelance jungle is only for those with thick skin like the honey badger.
Here are four freelance lessons from the honey badger.
1. The honey badger has skills:
The honeybadger seldom ever backs down from a fight; instead, it keeps coming at the opponent. It will keep sending Upwork Proposals until it gets the opportunity it seeks. Once the opportunity appears, the badger has the skills to execute the opponent. Oh, this is Upwork, and you’re not executing your client! You execute the project. Make sure you don’t squander that one chance by underdelivering. That one chance holds the key to many more. Ace it! Get a five-star rating!!! Learn and keep improving your skills. Take courses, tutorials, and leverage mentors.
2. The Honeybadger employs unique approaches:
It does not engage a serpent in the same way that it does a swarm of bees. As a result, stop sending the same proposals to each client. Stop starting every proposal with a generic salutation such as “Hi There.” Instead, look up the client’s previous reviews to find his or her name. Do not copy and paste someone else’s profile. If you must steal, steal like an artist. Look up three to four Upwork Profiles that you find impressive. Then borrow ideas from them to create your own unique profile. Remember to incorporate keywords relevant to your niche. But avoid keyword stuffing — overuse or abuse of keywords, especially in a way that doesn’t flow.
3. The honeybadger collaborates for success:
Badgers are typically solitary creatures, but they are willing to collaborate with other animals like coyotes if it benefits them. As a freelancer at any level, be open to collaborations. I recently collaborated with a freelance video spokesperson to execute an urgent multimedia project. The honey is sweeter when you collaborate. I sometimes involve my colleagues at Speaking Pen International Concepts when overwhelmed by projects and deadlines.
4. Eurasian badgers are generous:
Sometimes, they share burrows with red foxes, rabbits, and porcupines. As a freelancer, you want to learn new hacks and tips; do you also share what you know with other freelancers? How does this help you? It will surprise you that they know things you don’t know. Connect with other freelancers, in a nutshell. I am an Upwork top rated plus freelancer, but I remain open to learning because there are a lot of things I need to learn about Upwork, Fiverr and other freelance platforms.
